Project Description

3D Scooby-Doo Character Model : Daphne

For this project, I created a 3D character model of Daphne Blake from Scooby Doo using Blender. The goal of this project and character is to practice 3D character modelling of cartoon characters that form part of a set or series of characters. I also do mostly mesh modelling and minor sculpting when it comes to details such as clothes and creases – using the multiresolution modifier. The character’s hair is also a mesh model. Keeping the model and geometry at a medium level of detail. In this instance Daphne was made from using the base mesh of the first character in the set – namely Fred from Scooby Doo.

Once the Model is built I UV unwrap the mesh and create a simple stylized texture set making use of object normals, ambient occlusion and curvature maps to help shade my model, I use masks and gradients to build a texture that then gets baked into a PBR texture set. This leaves me usually with only a Diffuse and Normal map unless there are shiny or transparent elements on the model, then I also have alpha and specular maps.

Below you will find the final render of the character, a breakdown of the texture maps and render views – in wireframe, ‘clay’ and colour. I’ve also included a link to a timelapse of the modelling process.
